Avataq Benefit Cocktail

By Janice Grey

Avataq Cultural Institute is holding its first Auction and Cocktail to raise funds for the Institution. All proceeds go to Avataq, which has been working to preserve Culture and Language for the Inuit of Nunavik for over thirty years. The Institution is also known for its support and promotion of Inuit artists.
The event will be hosted by Nunavik's own spoken-word sensation, Taqralik Partridge, who will charm us with a performance of her work as well.
The Auction will be in two pieces, one silent and one live.
Items up for auction include a beautiful assortment of carvings by well known Inuit artists, photographs of the pristine northern landscape, Paintings, handmade jewelry and hand-sewn traditional clothing, among many other items.
Attendees of the fundraiser will have the privilege of seeing an exclusive performance of "Kautjajuk" by the Nunavik Theatre Company, and also performances by a young Hip-Hop group, Pivalliniq of Kuujjuaq as well as the much acclaimed Inuk singer-songwriter, Elisapie Isaac.
The cost of admission is 150$ per person, while the first ten Inuit who request tickets will receive a 50% discount. Tickets are available in advance, but also at the door.
Avataq would benefit greatly from this Fundraiser, and we hope to see many people show their support for such a vital Institution.
