The OSM have begun a three-show tour of Nunavik. Yesterday, a concert took place in Kuujjuaq; another will be given in Salluit tomorrow, and the last concert will be in Kuujjuaraapik. Maestro Nagano contacted Cree author Tomson Highway to write an opera for this tour. Highway was inspired by a Cree and Innu legend: "Chaakapesh, the trickster’s quest". Matthew Ricketts composed the music. 15 musicians, a baritone, a tenor and Akinisie Sivuarapik (the narrator in Inuktitut), participate in concert. The OSM will also perform three classical pieces: Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro”, Prokofiev’s “Symphony No. 5” and Bizet’s “The Pearl Fishers”.
Avataq Cultural Institute is one of the partners.
