TITLE: TRANSLATOR
Avataq Cultural Institute is a non-profit organization, created in 1980, dedicated to protecting and promoting the Language and Culture of the Inuit of Nunavik (Northern Quebec). The organization has its head office in Inukjuak, Nunavik, and an administrative office in Westmount, Québec.
AVATAQ is currently seeking a professional and dynamic candidate for the following position: Translator.
As part of the Administration department, the job-holder will translate various written documents, such as letters, reports, legal documents, publications and manuals:
- Translate various written documents from English to Inuktitut or vice versa, while transmitting as faithfully as possible the content, context and style of the source text;
- Revise, correct and edit translated texts;
- Train and supervise, if necessary, other translators.
Job requirements:
- University degree in translation or equivalent experience;
- Minimum of five years of experience;
- Strong experience of the north;
- Written and oral bilingualism (Inuktitut / English) is essential;
- Keen knowledge of Inuktitut is essential;
- Typing in English and Inuktitut is an asset;
- Good computer knowledge: MsOffice;
- Rigor and methodology, meet deadlines;
- Be available to travel in Nunavik occasionally.
