Avataq Cultural Institute is a non-profit organization, created in 1980, dedicated to protecting and promoting the Language and Culture of the Inuit of Nunavik (Northern Quebec). The organization has its head office in Inukjuak, Nunavik, and an administrative office in Westmount, Québec.
AVATAQ is currently seeking a professional candidate for the following position: Indexer-Transcriber (contract work).
Reporting to the Director of the Research, Archives and Documentation, the candidate will be responsible for the indexing of oral history recordings and on occasions for selected transcriptions, and will perform the following tasks:
- Listen to the Inuktitut recordings of the Avataq Oral History collection and write summaries of their contents in English;
- According to the current projects, may be asked to transcribe selected material in Inuktitut;
- Assist occasionally other staff members in other tasks when required.
Job requirements:
- Three years of experience in transcription or in a relevant domain;
- Secondary five or equivalent;
- Strong knowledge of Inuktitut and English writing skills;
- Computer skills (word processing) preferably on Macintosh environment;
- Data bases software (FileMaker Pro) knowledge an asset;
- Interest in Inuit history and culture is an essential asset;
- Punctual, responsible and reliable.
Additional information:
- Working schedule: 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday (35 hours/week);
- Salary: $20.00/hr;
- Location of work: Westmount Office;
